Tretchikoff Woman of The Ndebele Vintage Print: Ndebele people were originally descendants of the Nguni tribes of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. They later moved to the Transvaal region (about 200 years ago). The women, besides a love of personal adornment, are noted for their great pride in creatively decorating their homes and courtyards. These were artistically painted with clays & ochre’s taken from prehistoric deposits, using bold and intricate geometric patterns in red, blue, yellow and black tones.
